Jour 4 !

Day 4 !

Known things and new things for this day...

1) Shopping :

Chaque paire a coûté $47, soit 35€...

*****

I started the day with a bit of shopping in Macy's. Remember, i didn't take custom Converse shoes because in the end, i didn't like anything, or at least, not enough to pay the big bucks. So i found classic Converse shoes in Macy's : low ones in blue, and high ones in black (i'm deeply unable to make decisions, that's it). But it wasn't the color i really wanted for the high pair, i'd seen a beige that i really liked, but they didn't have it in Macy's. Since i wasn't going to look all around New York for the beige Converse, i settled for the black high pair. Each pair was $47 (35€)... Nice, right ? But that's where it gets complicated... I walked by another store a bit further, David Z, and thought "hey, they also do Converse ! Let's have a look..." and it was a bad idea... Because obviously, they had the color i wanted in high... I'll tell you a story later about this Converse hunt. So well, i bought a 3rd pair... A bit more expansive than in Macy's, $53 (39,50€)... The saleswoman at Macy's was super great, her name is Cheryl H. and she works for Finish Line (sport shoes department). Really great, you'll see why in the story later (oh my God this suspens is killing me).

A bit further on 34th st, east, a Levi's store... Why not ? Well was I inspired to get in !! First of all cause i could try on for the 1st time the Curve ID collection (yeah, i know, a bit behind...), and second of all, cause you don't see $23,40 jeans everyday !! Yes ladies and gentlemen, $23,40 !! 70% off on Curve ID jeans, in the Levi's store, so no Live's jeans or others, real Levi's... Worth a try, isn't it ? Done, i bought 2 jeans, and they suit me well !

It was really not what i was out for, i had a plan for the day... And there i was, 3 pairs of shoes and 2 jeans in my backpack... A bit heavy for a day out, but what do you want... Gotta be brave in this life.

2) Observatoire de l'Empire State Building // Empire State Building Observatory Deck :

On me suit ?

*****

So again a bit further on 34th st : the majestic, the beautiful Empire State Building, and its observatory deck on 86th floor. Last time i was in New York, i did the Empire State Building (ESB) by night and Top of the Rock by day. This time, i did the other way around ! Smart, uh ? I know. So about the photos, a bit of a fail... Because it was so sunny, and it was so in the middle of the day (the time for me to spend a bit of money), that the light was terrible for photos (or i'm an idiot, but honestly, it was 12:30pm). So a little white veil on the south view photos. North and east views a bit better. The view from the ESB is, in my humble opinion, less "New York" than the view from the Top of the Rock ; let me elaborate : first, well you don't see the ESB, one of the emblematic buildings of New York, obviously, you're in it... Still with me ? And then, being located at the south of the Top of the Rock building, the view of Central Park (another symbol of New York) is partial... Yeah, poor ESB, doesn't have so much for itself... so if you only choose one of the observatory decks, in my opinion (worth what it's worth), Top of the rock is better, day or night. The ESB still have a better view of the Statue of Liberty, south, since it's closer, but it is small, so you don't see it that well either...

There was really not so much wait to go up to the observatory deck. Almost no wait for the tickets, the line was moving fast, quick go through the security (airport style), etc. For the elevator, it was fast too. But once you're up there, you can stay as long as you want... So the view might be blocked by people who think they bought the view... But all in all, not so many people (well, at least that day, cause apparently, sometimes the line goes outside around the block...).

3) New York Public Library

*****

After the ESB, i walked north on 5th ave (where i found the David Z store with the converse) to 40th st to visit the New York Public Library, right next to Bryant Park (it being on the 6th ave). I was a bit disappointed cause there was some refurbishment work going on inside, so i couldn't see the beautiful main reading room, the rose Main Reading Room. It's closed for 6 months, starting in May, apparently... It's a beautiful old building, outside and inside. But it's still a library, so if you visit it, don't forget people are actually studying there... Silence and discretion are not optional.

Au total // All in all :

A suivre...

*****

- sales in New York are awesome

- the view from the Empire State Building is nice, but the view from the Top of the rock is better if you only do one of them
- the Rose Main Reading Room in the New York Public Library is closed for 6 months, starting May 2014... And it sucks.

To be continued...
