1) Départ de Paris CDG et Sa Majesté A380 // Leaving Paris - CDG and HRH Airbus A380 :
Super Shuttle est venu me chercher, pile à l'heure. J'avais réservé mon billet la veille sur le site. En arrivant à l'aéroport, j'ai compris mon malheur quand j'ai réalisé que c'était le 1er jour des vacances scolaires... Je n'avais pas, mais alors pas DU TOUT percuté. Beaucoup de monde, du monde qui ne prend pas souvent l'avion, et qui ne se renseigne pas avant, par exemple, sur le poids limite d'un bagage... Mais finalement, plutôt tout bien. Par contre, si vous ne connaissez pas PARAFE, le système automatisé de contrôle aux frontières, eh bien vous ratez tout dans la vie. Oui, TOUT. Ce 5 juillet, 1er jour des vacances scolaires, il m'a fallu en tout et pour tout 10 secondes pour passer la police et arriver en salle d'embarquement. Bon, allez, j'exagère. DEUX secondes. Si vous avez les tout nouveaux passeports, vous n'avez rien à faire. Si vous avez une ancienne version, il faut un inscription à la police, qui prend 10 minutes d'après la pub (j'y suis allée, mais comme j'avais le nouveau passeport, ils m'ont dit que c'était bon). Et ces 10 minutes, vous allez les remercier plus tard. Vous allez les aimer.
J'ai donc pris le vol AF 0007 de Paris CDG à New York JFK. J'avais choisi ce vol parce que c'est le fameux Airbus A380 et que je n'avais pas pu le prendre la dernière fois en 2009 ! Alors un mélange d'excitation et d'appréhension quand même : je n'ai pas peur de l'avion, même si ces derniers temps, j'ai trouvé mes vols un peu plus longs à passer que d'habitude... Mais c'est surtout que ce truc est ENORME !! Sérieusement, juste ENORME. C'est très impressionnant. Enfin bref. En revanche, une fois à l'intérieur, en classe économique, ben c'est un avion... Un peu plus spacieux que le Boeing 777, il faut l'avouer, qui est l'avion utilisé sur la liaison Fort-de-France - Paris, et que j'utilise donc régulièrement. Mais bon, en classe économique, c'est assez peu différent. Plus design et plus moderne, mais j'ai envie de dire "heureusement" ! Petit reproche : je prends toujours hublot parce que j'aime bien m'appuyer sur la carlingue pour dormir ; ben là, n'y pensez même pas ! Il y a 30cm entre le dossier du siège et la carlingue, impossible de s'appuyer dessus... Du coup, il devient moins confortable que le 777 pour dormir ! C'est un comble. Mais je chipote, globalement, c'est très bien.
Par contre, monsieur Pilote, désolée de te dire que ton décollage était raté !! Un tremblement de terre de magnitude 8.8 sur l'échelle de RICHTER ! Et je peux dire que tu l'as raté, parce qu'au retour, je n'ai pratiquement rien senti au décollage, et là, j'ai compris les commentaires que j'avais entendus sur l'A380. Alors il y avait peut-être des turbulences, des vents contraires ou je ne sais quoi, mais entre le tremblement de terre et l'aile en caoutchouc qui est beaucoup trop souple pour que je la trouve rassurante, ben j'étais pas rassurée... Mais ce n'est peut-être pas de ta faute, alors je ne t'en veux pas... Tout le vol et l'atterrissage étaient bien.
En conclusion : si vous avez peur de l'avion, ne prenez pas un siège hublot sur l'A380. Et j'espère que votre décollage sera clément, parce qu'il peut aussi reproduire un tremblement de terre magnitude 8, et ça ne vous aidera pas.

I took the AF 0007 flight from Paris CDG to New York JFK. I chose this one cause it's the famous Airbus A380 and i couldn't take it last time in 2009 ! So i went with a mix of both anticipation and apprehension : i'm not afraid of flying, even though my last flights seemed to last longer than usual... But mostly because this thing is HUGE !! Seriously, just HUGE. Very impressive. Anyway. On the other hand, once inside, eco is like, just any other plane... With a little bit more space than in the Boeing 777, i must admit, which is the aircarft used for the Fort-de-France to Paris connection, the one i'm most used to. But eco is not very different. A bit more design and modernity, at least ! A little con, though : i always flight window because i can lay on the cabin and sleep ; well, don't even think about it on the A380 ! There's about 30cm between the seatback and the cabin, it's impossible to lay on it... It becomes less comfortable than the 777 for sleeping ! That's a shame. But i'm being picky, it's mainly great.
But Mister Pilot, i'm sorry to tell you, you sucked at that take-off part !! It was like an earthquake measuring 8.8 on the RICHTER scale ! And i can say you sucked, cause on the way back from JFK to CDG, i didn't feel a thing when we took off, and then i got all the comments i'd heard on the A380. So there were probably turbulence, or head wind or whatever, but between the earthquake and the rbber wing way too bendy for comfort, i wasn't comfortable... But it's not your fault, i'm not mad at you... The rest of the flight and the landing were nice.
So if you're afraid of flying, don't choose a window seat on the A380. And i hope your take-off will be a good one, because it might also impersonate an earthquake 8.8 magnitude, and it will not help you.

2) Arrivée à New York // Arriving in New York :
J'avais réservé mon billet Super Shuttle avant de partir sur le site. Arrivée à JFK pile à l'heure, j'ai récupéré ma valise rapidement, puis je me suis dirigée vers le Welcome Center pour appeler Super Shuttle. Alors les meufs du Welcome Center, pas trop helpful, hein... Mais bon, ce n'est pas très compliqué, il y a un numéro à appeler directement du téléphone juste à côté d'elles pour dire que vous êtes là et ensuite, le chauffeur vient vous chercher quand il arrive. J'ai attendu environ 20 minutes. Ensuite, navette partagée oblige, vous allez récupérer d'autres passagers dans les autres terminaux de l'aéroport avant de vous diriger vers votre but : Manhattan. Ca va assez vite, ils sont rodés, j'avais calculé à vue de nez 2h de JFK à l'appartement, et c'est le temps que ça a pris +/- 10 minutes. On est passé par le Manhattan bridge, avec en bonus un petit aperçu du Brooklyn bridge.

I'd booked my Super Shuttle ticket online
before leaving. We arrived at JFK right on time, i got my suitcase
pretty quickly then headed to the Welcome Center to call Super Shuttle.
So the ladies at the Welcome Center, not so very helpful, though... But
anyway, not too hard, there's a number you call on the public phone
right next to them to say you've arrived, then the driver comes to pick
you up where you are, in the waiting area. I waited about 20 minutes.
Then, it's a shared ride, so you go and pick up other passengers in
other terminals, before heading to your goal : Manhattan. It's quick,
they're used to it, i had estimated about 2 hours from the landing time
to the appartment, and that's what it took, +/- 10 minutes. He used the
Manhattan bridge, so we got a little peak at the Brooklyn bridge.
3) Appartement Air BnB // AirBnB appartment :
Très très bien. La chambre était grande et propre, le lit très confortable (c'est important après un grosse journée de marche), le wifi fonctionnait... Vraiment bien. C'était chez un couple de jeunes gens récemment installés à New York, qui travaillaient beaucoup et à des horaires très variés ; je ne les ai donc pas beaucoup croisés, mais le peu de fois où on était là en même temps, c'était très sympathique ! L'appartement était situé à Chelsea, littéralement à quelques pas de Penn Station, sans pour autant être trop proche : tous les avantages pratiques d'une gare importante (plein de métros et de bus) sans les inconvénients (agitation, saleté...). Macy's était également à 15 minutes de marche, l'Empire State Building à 3 minutes de plus que Macy's, et tout le reste à quelques stations de métro. Pour leur faire un peu de pub, il s'agit de l'appartement de Yuko et Lu à Chelsea.

Very very good. The room was big and clean, the
bed was very comfy (which is important after a long day of walking),
wifi worked... Really good. It was a young couple, recently settled in
New York, they were working a lot and on crazy hours, never twice the
same ; so i didn't cross path with them a lot, but the times we were
there at the same time, it was very nice ! The appartment was in
Chelsea, literally a few steps away from Penn Station, but without being
too close : all the pros of being next to a big train station (lots of
buses and metros) without the cons (agitation, filth...). Macy's was
also a 15-minute walk away, and all the rest a few metro stations away. It's Yuko et Lu's appartment in Chelsea.
4) Highline Park
Pour les détails, la Highline à New York est une ancienne voie ferrée industrielle en
hauteur transformée en parc sous la pression des riverains...
Comparaison habituelle : la Coulée Verte parisienne. Elle offre une petite bouffée d'air frais originale au milieu de l'agitation, et de jolies vues de la ville entre les bâtiments.
Je suis donc sortie pour chercher à manger après mon arrivée, vers 20h. J'ai marché jusqu'au Chelsea Market (environ 20 minutes), mais certains resto étaient sur le point de fermer, et d'autres ne m'inspiraient pas trop... J'étais un peu fatiguée et pas très aventurière. Je suis donc remontée vers l'appartement par la highline et son parc, avec un joli couché de soleil en prime et l'Empire State Building illuminé en bleu/blanc/rouge (week-end du 4 juillet, fête de l'indépendance des États-Unis). Il y avait un petit snack qui vendait à manger, mais pareil, presque fermé et pas très inspirant... La nuit commençait à tomber, j'avais assez faim, j'ai poursuivi mon chemin jusqu'au bout de la highline pour finalement terminer dans un Mc Do à côté de PENN Station. J'avoue, un peu facile. Mais pour ma défense, les menus sont différents d'un pays à l'autre ! J'ai quand même été un peu originale, du coup, bien obligée... Pour leur défense, il faisait nuit et j'étais quand même bien fatiguée, alors je dirai juste que je retenterai l'expérience de façon un peu plus réceptive la prochaine fois.

There was a little snack that also offered food, but same, about to close and not very inspiring... The night was almost there, i was pretty hungry, i walked to the end of the Highline to finally end up in a Mc Donald's around Penn Station. I know, easy. But to my defense, the menus are different from one country to another ! So i WAS original, had to anyway... To their defense, it was night time and i was really tired, so i'll just say i'll try again in a more receptive way next time.
Then i went back home to take a shower and sleep. I would discover Brooklyn the day after !

PARAFE est ton ami.
L'A380 : mieux au retour qu'à l'aller, énorme, impressionnant.
Super Shuttle : plutôt efficace.
Appartement AirBnB : vraiment très bien : chez Yuko & Lu à Chelsea.
Highline Park : probablement à faire de jour et pas trop fatiguée, parce que de nuit et fatiguée, j'ai pas été impressionnée contrairement aux nombreux commentaires super positifs que j'ai lus. "Pas mal, mais pas indispensable" est mon avis après cette première expérience.
