Bonus ! New York City - Juillet 2014 : Une histoire de Converse... // New York City - July 2014 : About those Converse shoes...

converse, new york city, usa

If you've read this blog correctly, you know that i came back home with 3 pairs of Converse shoes in my suitcase, and i'm very happy with them... But things weren't always that easy...

First, there was the little disappointment with the converse Store and the fact that i didn't like the designs they offered that much... I wouldn't have those super customized unique just for me Converse shoes...

Then i found some i liked, classic ones, in Macy's then David Z. And that's where it all gets interesting...

I first went to Macy's, and found 2 pairs : high ones (black) and low ones (blue), but stuck in my mind was a color they didn't have. No big deal, i was happy with my blue and black classic pairs. The salesperson (Cheryl H. in the Finish Line department in Macy's) was super nice, Converse shoes are in the sports department (with the Finish Line brand). I tried the 2 pairs on, chose a size (7) and left, happy with my new shoes...

Then, coming out of the Empire State Building on my way to the New York Library, i walked passed David Z., and that's when i saw they had nice original models... So i went inside... And they had the color Macy's didn't have !! So i ask the salesperson, a nice guy too, if they have that color in size 7... He goes to look for it, then comes back : they didn't have size 7. Sad face. He came back with a size 8, though, so i tried it on. But it felt so big in comparison with the size 7, that i had tried on pretty good at Macy's. So i ask him if he's sure they don't have it, he goes back to look for it, checks on the computer that says they have it, but can't find them anywhere... Well, no big deal, it's just that i shouldn't have them, 2 pairs is already good. He tells me that if the computer says they have it, and he can't find them, maybe it's because it's a delivery expected today, if i can come back later that day.

I spent the day out, NY Public Library, Grand Central Terminal, Roosevelt Island... And since the subway back from Roosevelt Island would get me to Macy's, i went back to David Z. at around 6pm, just to check... He recognizes me, but tells me straight away they haven't received anything... So his boss who was around asks what it's about, he explains it to him. And the boss goes to look for the shoes, and comes back in less than 5 minutes with my pretty sand color Converse shoes in size 7 !!! They weren't at the right place !! I was happy, i paid and came back home...

Two days after, to visit the American Museum of Natural History and Central Park, i opted for the black Converse shoes, happy with myself. And that's where it all goes wrong : they hurt my feet almost right after i went out of the apartment, i still kept them on all day long, and in the evening, i had a blister the size of my head on my left fifth toe...

Damn it !! Good news is i had only worn 1 pair, so i went to Macy's on the friday to say i would like to exchange the other pair, the one i hadn't worn... I find Cheryl H. again, who recognizes me, still super nice, i explain everything and she tells me to try the size 8 again, and even finds a size 7,5 to see... She gives me some socks (well, socks from the store to give away, that was not a favor) to try them on. And there, obviously, i need size 8. And that's where she was super nice : when i told her my sad little story, she remembered i'd bought 2 pairs, i told her i wore 1 of them and i wanted to exchange the other one because i had a huge blister... And she told me no, to bring back BOTH pairs, that she would exchange them both because she doesn't want me to leave with shoes that don't fit !!!! "But i wore 1 of them" i tell her, and she was like "No, no, no, don't care, you need shoes that fit, bring back both of them"... I didn't have the shoes with me because i was meeting my friend to go to Coney Island, so she asks me if i can bring them back tuesday... Well, no, because i was leaving on sunday, but i tell her i could come back on saturday or even sunday morning before i leave to the airport. And there she takes me to the counter, asks her colleagues who will be there on saturday or sunday, finds them and explains to them the whole deal, that i will come back with 2 pairs, one of them was worn, but they still need to exchange both pairs, cause she said so.

See ? Super nice, wasn't she ? So since i still had 15 minutes until i met my friend, i quickly went back to the apartment (a 10 minutes walk away) and came back with the shoes straight away. She did went the extra mile, so i wasn't going to be the lazy one...

*****

But i still had a 3rd pair in size 7... In a store the salesperson had spent about 30 minutes looking for something his boss ridiculously found in 10 seconds... After Coney Island, i quickly went back to David Z., this time, hoping (ashamed) that the same salesperson wouldn't be there... Well, he was there and recognized me... And i tell him "Remember the pair i absolutely wanted in a size 7 and you spent the whole day looking for ? Well, i would like size 8 in the end, please..." (the size you found directly but i'd said no...). Well, he was nice, he didn't say anything special, but still... What a pain...

*****

There you go !! Little bonus story of the day...

To be honest, size 7 is a French 37,5 (when i'm more like a 38,5), so it was all meant to happen, but i swear, when i tried it on at Macy's with my thin socks, it was fine !!! Size 8 is a French 39.

So, with all that, since i came back home, i can't bring myself to wear those Converse... I'm scared...
