3) Financial District

*****

So it was about 6pm when i arrived, directly from the boat to the Financial District. I started with FOOD, in a crêperie i had noticed on Yelp. I tell you about it because it was pretty nice. It was a very tiny (tiny) restaurant named Crêpes du Nord, 17 South William st, a less than 5 minutes walk from Battery Park. It's less than 20 people, and it was really good and generous ! I even took a photo of my sweet crêpe... And it was not too pricey, about $30 for salty crêpe + sweet crêpe + drink + tip (it's less than 25€). And it's fresh food, from their own farm upstate. Surprise : the salty crêpe is black, i think it's a particularity from Scandinavia. I asked what type of floor or recipe it was, but i forgot... Yay me !

Then, off to Bowling Green, oldest park in Manhattan, triangle at the far end of Broadway, with the famous bronze bull at its tip. There was no way i could make a nice photo of it with a bunch of tourists posing for photos in between its hind legs... Then a little walk to the north, Wall st, it's important. There is not much to do in the Financial District, but it was a nice digestive walk.

4) 9/11 Memorial

Vraiment.

*****

I kept going north on Broadway, then turned left on Liberty st to the 9/11 Memorial. We all know about it, September 11th 2001, terrorist attacks, plane crash on the World Trade Center twin towers, tragic. No debate here. In place of the destroyed towers, like, on their foundations, they built 2 pools, the Infinity Pools, same ground size than the towers, in memory of the victims, with their names on the sides (attacks of 1993 and 2001). It's quite difficult to give a description (waterfalls, lights, etc.), it's obivously quite a heavy mood on site when you know what it's about, it's a place of contemplation, no one is dancing or jumping around, obviously. At the same time, it's a quite sober and elegant monument. It's very well done in my opinion.

In the background, you have the One World Trade Center tower, replacing the previous ones (after all, it WAS a workplace). Taller, more stylish, in a blue hue. It's beautiful and impressive. Around the Infinity Pools, it's also sober and nice, huge plaza, with 400 trees in total, including the Survivor Tree which was discovered on Ground Zero about 1 month after the attacks, healed and replanted, symbol of "resilience and rebirth" they say.

Next to the Memorial (free entrance, from 7:30am to 9pm), there is the 9/11 Museum, which you have to buy a ticket for (but free entrance on tuesdays from 5pm), last entry at 7pm (2h before closing time). During winter season, reduced hours - 2h. I didn't visit the Museum.

It wasn't something i planned to do, i didn't really plan to go for a walk in Financial District and push to this place ; i was a bit concerned it would be kind of creepy, i just couldn't picture myself there, like "what for ?", "isn't it a bit creepy to visit such a morbid place ?", etc. without refuting the idea, but not quite willing to go. All in all, considering this place as a touristic attraction was putting me in an uncomfortable position. In the end, i'm happy i did it. I wouldn't do it again, i think.

And after this contemplative visit, i came back home. My feet were screaming. For real.
